Our Review

The Makita DUC355Z Chainsaw is a fast and consistent tool which has been designed with both practicality and convenience at the front of mind. It offers a 35cm bar size and a rapid chain speed of up to 20 metres per second, although the speed can be adjusted thanks to the speed controller. And to top everything off, the chain is designed to maintain a consistent speed even when under load.

The Makita DUC355Z Chainsaw is cordless, meaning you can take it anywhere without restriction. It takes two 18V Makita batteries (not included). Such batteries can also be used with other cordless Makita tools, so you may well have one already. The chainsaw's other features include automatic chain lubrication, a metal spike bumper for precise cutting, and a lock-off lever to prevent accidental start up.

Specification

The features are as follows:

  • Performance - The Makita DUC355Z Chainsaw performs well. It has a chain speed of up to 20 metres per second and a 35cm bar size, letting you cut through logs quickly. It also has a variable speed controller and maintains constant speed when cutting, even when bearing a heavy load.
  • Cordless - The chainsaw is cordless, taking twin 18V batteries which power the 36V brushless motor. It also starts up instantly and is easy to set up. Battery powered chainsaws are much easier to maintain than their petrol powered counterparts. Note that the charger and batteries are sold separately. If you already use Makita tools, then there's a chance that you already have a compatible battery.
  • Chain Lubrication - The chain is automatically lubricated. The chainsaw has a large oil filling port with a handy viewing window which lets you see the oil level. The tank has a 200ml oil capacity.
  • Metal Spike Bumper - The Makita DUC355Z Chainsaw has a metal spike bumper which grips in a way that gives you extra control.
  • Lock-Off Lever - A lock-off lever prevents accidental start up.
  • Captive Nuts - A series of captive nuts prevent accidental nut loss when removing the sprocket cover.
